Hey everyone,

Earlier in the week we reported on a rumour, started by PlayStation Lifestyle saying that Final Fantasy VII would be coming to the PlayStation 3; however they hadn’t commented in what way, shape or form the game would be coming (prequel, remake, sequel).

PlayStation Lifestyle’s “inside sources” have continued to say that there will definitely not, by any means be a Final Fantasy VII remake in the near future. However, there sources did confirm that there would definitely be a Final Fantasy VII on PlayStation 3; through the form or a sequel.

Rumours have also been flying around that Final Fantasy VII would be appearing on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, despite the fact that PlayStation Lifestyle was one of the main contributors to these rumours - they have gone back and denied the credibility of them, saying that it’s unlikely that Sony would give up the license for Final Fantasy VII.

As I’d predicted, it looks as if PlayStation Lifestyle’s sources are indeed there imaginations; as they’ve gone back on several of the things that they have claimed. I guess we’ll just have to wait until Tokyo Game Show 2008 to find out for sure.

RSS Feed Final Fantasy XIII On PC?

Hey everyone,

Final Fantasy XIII LightningApparently Yoshinori Kitase, Final Fantasy XIII’s producer made an announcement at a recent Square Enix press conference regarding the platform availability of Final Fantasy XIII. According to Portalit News Kitase said that there will be three version of the game, a PlayStation 3 version, a Xbox 360 version and last but not least; a PC version. This is definitely a possibility, especially considering that Square Enix’s Crystal Tools engine is a multi-platform engine.

The content will be the same on all platforms, said Kitase.

Despite Sony’s bid for exclusive content, it seems as if Kitase is adamant that Final Fantasy XIII will be the same across the board. Bad news for Sony fans, but at least they still have Final Fantasy Versus XIII as an exclusive title.

However, we have yet to determine how many discs will be required for the 360 version. We’ll have to consider the differences between formats. Currently the game is being built on PC, where it’s actually functional. We’re still focusing on making it work on PS3, so it’s difficult to know how long the process of taking it to 360 will take.

Kitase also commented on the amount of disks that the 360 version will need, saying that he was unsure. Though if the game is anywhere near the size of Metal Gear Solid 4, then we could be looking at anything from up to 6 to 7 dual layered DVD’s.

Now that we’re developing on a PC base, the pace is going a bit faster,” Kitase said. “We haven’t introduced new footage of the game, but we should be able to show something new in the near future.

Furthermore, Kitase continued to say that Final Fantasy XIII’s main development has been shifted to PC; which has apparently speeded up the development process. This is good news for Xbox 360 owners, because considering what the 360 is; porting the game from the PC to Xbox 360 won’t take much effort at all. I’m not entirely sure how credible our source is, considering Final Fantasy hasn’t been on PC since Final Fantasy VIII - either way, if it speeds up the development process then I’m all for it.

RSS Feed “New” Final Fantasy Versus XIII Jump Festa 2007 Trailer!

Hey everyone,

So you’ve just read the title, and now you’re thinking “How does that work?”, “New” and “Jump Festa 2007” in the same sentence? Well actually, it does. The following trailer was shown at the Jump Festa 2007 event in Japan, inside Square Enix’s closed Mega Theatre; and because of this it’s actually the first time the general public have laid eyes on the trailer.

Unfortunately the trailer doesn’t have sound, instead it’s replaced with the final boss battle theme from Mistwalker’s Lost Odyssey for Xbox 360. That doesn’t really matter though, as it’s actually pretty good quality considering it was filmed with a camera. The leaked Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer, as usual is 100% CGI, giving us no clues as to what the game play or even the battle system looks like.

RSS Feed New Final Fantasy VII Installment on PlayStation 3?

Hey everyone,

Final Fantasy VII PlayStation 3PlayStation 3 fansite, PlayStation Lifestyle recently reported on some “exclusive inside info” regarding the next installment in the Final Fantasy VII franchise.

The website claims that Square Enix has confirmed a Final Fantasy VII title for the PlayStation 3 console, unfortunately they didn’t have anything in the ways of specifics so it’s unclear as to whether or not they are talking about the final installment in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII; or the rumoured remake of Final Fantasy VII on PlayStation 3.

PlayStation Lifestyle continued to say that the original game, Final Fantasy VII will be released for download on the PlayStation Network later this year. What I will say on the matter is, why would Square Enix talk to a relatively unknown gaming blog like PlayStation Lifestyle; furthermore “exclusive inside sources” usually translates to “my own imagination“.

If you’ve been following news on the Final Fantasy front, then you’ll know that Square Enix are saving a big PlayStation 3 announcement for the DKΣ3713 Party (though this website claims the announcement will be made public at the Tokyo Game Show); so there could well be some truth in it - especially since Square Enix have already said the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII isn’t over. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if Final Fantasy VII did come to the PlayStation Network; because it’s an obvious move on Square Enix’s behalf.
